Hola! My name is Carmen Marshall. I came to Minnesota from Peru to teach Spanish and my culture. I grew up next to the Pacific Ocean, and I had more knowledge of architecture, radio, and TV programming than farming. All that changed when I met Peter in a pumpkin patch. In 1997, I was teaching at an elementary school in Chaska as part of a cultural exchange program when the child of my host family wanted to pick a pumpkin. The pumpkin patch we visited was Peter’s family's, and I found the best pumpkin in the Marshall's field! Peter and I got married in 1999.
Hello, I am Peter Marshall. I come from a long line of farmers in the area; my late father, George Marshall, was an early vendor at the Minneapolis Farmers Market. My grandparents used to sell directly to small stores that sold groceries in their local communities.
After Carmen and I married, we started a small operation in Shakopee that focused on sweet corn, watermelons, and pumpkins. Peter's Pumpkins and Carmen's Corn no longer just sell corn, pumpkins, and watermelon. By 2001, our farm had expanded, and we sold our produce and canning goods at different farmers' markets and at our roadside stand in Shakopee.
"It is more blessed to give than to receive"
“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ” – Acts 20:35
Thanks to the anonymous donor, we gave “Virtual Hugs from Josh” to different First Responders with products from “Peter's Pumpkins & Carmen's Corn.” We are very grateful for their heroic and hard work. May God bless each one of them and their families.
Thanks to everyone who helped us bless some of the first responders, whom we consider to be our heroes. God bless you!
